Twenty

from 20 US dollars note
Two-Zero (20), pronounced as "twen-tee" or in America we pronounce it as "twen-ee". Doesn't matter how you pronounce the number, I know you know that 20 is a number.

Today is a special day for me because I was born 20 years ago on the same date as today. Alhamdulillah, thank you Allah for giving me oxygen to breathe, and a healthy body and mind, so that I am still alive till now. 20 years are equal to two decades. Reflecting on my life for the past 20 years, I could say I'm glad I was born in a very loving and happy family. Thank you ibu, and ayah for raising me up with abundance of happiness. Every second is counted. Thank you for having a high patience dealing with my temper and stubbornness. I love you both very much till the last second of my breath. Thank you also to my sweet and cheerful siblings : abang, baby, eman, and ami for coloring my life with a lot of laughter and happiness. I love all of you very much till the end of my life.

This year's birthday is meaningful because it falls on the first day of Ramadan. So, I get double wishes this year : Happy Birthday, Ramadan Kareem. It's not easy for my birthday to fall on the first day of Ramadan. Maybe it'll happen just once in my whole life.

This year's birthday is without my family members. I'm in Rochester, NY whereas my family are in Seri Kembangan, Malaysia. There are not many friends staying back in Rochester either. So, I don't expect anything special like last year's celebration to happen again. Plus, my birthday is just another day in one of 365 days a year. Wishes are good enough.

It's still a long way to go for me. I still haven't achieved a lot of things that I can be proud of. If you were to ask me what good things have I contributed to the world, I can't tell because I don't really contribute anything to the world. Not yet, I guess. But, I do hope I can utilize the brain that Allah has granted, for the benefits of the world.

Everyone is destined to die one day. It's a no-no if anyone ever say that they're immortal because only our creator, Allah is immortal. I believe when some people say, "Your birthday reminds you that you're approaching death."

My wishes for this year's birthday would be :
1) I hope to see my family again, everyone of them in a good health when I go back to Malaysia next year.
2) I hope I'll have a better immune system to fight against illnesses.
3) I hope I'll be stronger to face any obstacle in life.
4) I hope I'll have a bountiful wisdom.

Hopefully Allah will grant my wishes. Amin ~

Kenduri Doa Selamat + 19th Birthday Celebration

I just recovered from fever. I guess I didn't have enough rest and sleep for a few days before and after the kenduri which was held at my house. This is normal though, whenever people organize events in their houses be it birthday parties, open houses, or kenduri (a kind of religious feast).

July 31, 2010
The purposes of organizing this kenduri on last Saturday (July 31) night were to :
                          1. pray for my safety in pursuing my studies in USA
                          2. pray for sister who'll sitting for SPM this year
                          3. tahlil (pray for dead people) for relatives
                          4. my 19th birthday (my birthday is on August 1)

Lots of people came to the event. There're 2 slots. The first slot which was before Maghrib prayer was for my relatives. The second slot which was after the Isyak prayer was for my neighbors and friends. However, some of my relatives stayed back until 11p.m. My birthday celebration was held at around 10.30 p.m. To my surprise, my cousin (Kak Ika from my mom's side) baked a chocolate cake for me. As from my family, it was chocolate cheese cake (my favorite cake from Secret Recipe). As a token of appreciation to my friends and neighbors who came, I gave them a goodie bag each which contained a muffin (I made by myself), jellies, and a small snack.

There're varieties of food on that night. My dad cooked a very healthy vegetable soup (mushrooms + labu air (I don't know what's that in English) and made his famous tapai pulut (fermented glutinous rice); my mom made mango salad, sambal belacan (blended chillies with prawn paste), and ulam segar (fresh herbal vegetables); my mom's friend cooked ayam masak lemak cili padi (chicken cooked with coconut milk and blended chillies, turmeric, etc),  very famous Malay food originated from Negeri Sembilan; one of my aunties cooked udang masak sambal petai (prawns cooked in blended chillies), specially requested by me because I like it; another aunt keladi masak asam pedas (yam cooked with blended chillies and tamarind), very famous Malay food originated from Malacca; other aunties brought Malay traditional desserts like tepung pelita, seri muka, apam, and lepat. As for me, I baked muffins. However, there were only 60 muffins that I managed to bake due to time constrain. Some of the muffins were a bit overcooked on the top, but the bottom is still good. Somehow, people liked my muffins. My neighbors, relatives and friends said my muffins were marvelous. A neighbor and one of my aunties even asked me for the recipe to bake those muffins. Not bad, my muffins...hehe

August 1, 2010
My 19th birthday ! Well, when I woke up, I felt very sleepy and tired. The whole body ached.  There're hundreds of messages from Facebook and my handphone. What else could it be ? Birthday wishes of course. I took quite some time to reply to those all.
In the afternoon, my family and I went to Muar to visit my sister in her boarding school, MRSM Muar. She couldn't go back home for the event that was held last night. Even though all of us were still tired from last night, we still went to see my sister. We had our lunch there, and accompanied her for shopping. She also asked me to help her in preparing for her mock interview tomorrow. Mock interview for scholarship application.
On the way back to Serdang, there was a traffic jam on the North-South Highway on the lanes to Kuala Lumpur. We reached home quite late, around 9 p.m. When I checked my Facebook account, again there're hundreds of birthday wishes on my wall. Actually, some people even wished me on July 31 or August 2. Anyway, thanks to all the wishes. It was a great day to remember. My last birthday as a TEENager. Next year, there's no more TEEN on my age.

It was a very simple yet blissful day

A lot of unexpected thing happened today. A LOT. When I woke up from a very nice sleep this morning, I expected something from my family members especially my parents. Something like...a birthday gift or...a surprise ! I am not too old to get a birthday present from my parents right ? I am just 18... However, they acted like they usually do. The usual weekend morning routine. Dah la breakfast was just nasi lemak bungkus. Besides, my mom had to work today. Suddenly some students need to use her lab. May dad went somewhere. I was alone in the house with my 7-year old younger brother who was watching TV and 15-year old younger sister who was still sleeping. I waited until afternoon for any surprise from my family...but it turned out to be nothing. I thought we could eat lunch together but my dad had to attend this one kenduri in my neighbor's house. I was asked to fetch my 12-year old younger brother from school and to buy food for lunch. Never mind...I was still hoping that they'll celebrate my birthday later...perhaps dinner? In the afternoon, my brother came back home from UTP. He got 1 week quarantined break (H1N1 kan sedang merebak). Meanwhile, my mailbox was working actively. I got new messages continuously especially from Facebook. hehe...birthday wishes yang boleh diibaratkan cendawan tumbuh selepas hujan. These sweet friends made me forget about my family members who ignored me.

In the evening, my dad said he had to attend another kenduri after Isyak prayer. This time, it was in another neighbor's house. Haish...since my dad not around, of course they would not be any birthday dinner...dah la my sister suddenly got fever. My mom had to accompany her to clinic (check for H1N1 also ! ) arghh...fine...what to do...I was still hoping...hoping for at least A BIRTHDAY GIFT ! but no...nothing special...my dinner was kue tiaw ladna. Nothing special...but it is still a food ^_^ Until the clock strike 11:59pm, which means the end of my special day, still...nobody give me any birthday present...
At the end of the day, lots of people asked me, "How was your birthday ?", "How many birthday presents do you get ?" My answer : My birthdays have always been a very simple day. The last time I had my birthday party/celebration was when I was 6 years old. The last time I had my birthday cake was...dunno...10 years old ? This time, there was no birthday celebration, no birthday gift. But I don't really mind about all that...I'll be very happy as long as I AM NOT ALONE on my birthday. "SWEET 18" *peace*

To all people who wished me, doesn't matter when, be it on 31st July or 1st August, THANK YOU SO MUCH !! For your information, 111 people (family+friends) wished me ! What a big number ! I am surprised also by that fact. I have the long list...can ask me to know your ranking!

I'm 18 !!

Today is August 1, 2009...a very special day for me. Why? Hurm...18 years ago, I was born in Kuala Lumpur. So, now you got it? Why today is special?? Besides that, today is also my first day of writing my own blog because previously I wrote with a few friends for a class blog (^_^) . Well, I purposely do this because I'm 18 years old ! I'm giving myself a birthday gift. What?? My reason for writing a blog is not convincing enough? Ok 2...another reason is...I think I need to share something with people so that my head would not be burdened by so many things. Actually, I don't like to tell people about my feelings and thoughts. I always keep it to myself...the result is, I'll explode when these accumulated things go to the max! A very special person once said that "You strike me as a silent person-the one who doesn't talk unless spoken to." But that was a history. Now, I need to make some slight changes...why?kerana SAYA SUDAH DEWASA. Yes. I'm an adult now. However, I don't mind what my 12-year old younger brother said to me after wishing me, "Kak Ngah ni tua macam mana pun perangai macam budak-budak." What do you think? I was, am, and always be young!
